Continuing to Run the Race

From the heart of Mr Phillip Just-

Monday July 15th, First full day of English camp starting sharply at 10:00. It started with introduction, a quick smelly game of Shoes in the Middle” don’t know it?? Get involved in Wednesday nights and you can experience it. Then we practiced the camp song and announcements. We then went off into our English classes. The Poles are understanding what is being taught, they are using it and wanting to learn more. There is less use of the translator in the beginners class which is great. All the class teachers noted in our evening debrief that classes went well and the student had fun learning. We had lunch where we were able to talk and connect with the students.  There was some free time after lunch where it was filled with either playing card games like: uno, Dobble, and Liggretto or four square. Fun games and they sure like to play them a lot I mean A LOT! A variety of workshops were next on the schedule we had Kim and Ellie J- English, Carl, Ben and Zach- Sports, Malwina- POI, Estera-Earring Making, Gaba-card games. I felt all students enjoyed themselves.  Then we had a Monster game of Capture the Flag, Poles caught on quickly and it was fun but exhausting. Then off to the Evening program where we enjoyed a quick game, camp song, and worship by Derek, Paula and Abby. I really enjoyed the worship tonight. It seemed like the Poles made a great effort to sing our songs more than the previous two nights. It was amazing but that still doesn’t do it justice. Abby’s message was about the idea of what faith is. Her intro started out by talking about not asking for any help and thinking we can do it all on our own.  Abby then went on to tell of a story when she locked her keys in her car, then using a screwdriver she proceeded to pry the door open enough to get the door unlocked but instead she accidently broke her car window. Shattering into a thousand pieces. She had Peter, a Pole, member of Domi’s youth group share his story. Abby talked about in Mark 4:35-41 when Jesus calmed the storm. How Jesus asked his disciples “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Then Abby related to when we show lack of faith in God. The students broke out into their cell groups to discuss. After that was done we had a Tourist theme night for the Students and  along with them we enjoyed it as well. There was a flag quiz, a couple eating contests, other trivia activities, learned a fun Belgium dance that is performed in a circle and rotating partners within the song itself, and not to mention people dressing up as tourist.  That was an eventful day of camp, long, tiring but quite fun. It ended with supper at the church to unwind and debrief.
Laura Hash stopped by camp to see how Domi, Abby, Leaders, and the students were doing.  Abby talked to her more in detail and I also engaged in conversation with her at the end of the night. It was pleasant to see her and talk to her. In my discussion I was surprised that there are these English camps that go on almost every week and how many new students attend from 5th graders all the way to graduates.  It was amazing to know that these camps aren’t just a couple weeks out of the summer but all summer long, camps teaching the good news about our Savior Jesus Christ.
Thank you so much for the many prayers that you have already prayed and I know they will continue to come.
Please pray for the following: There is a little cold/sore throat bug that is going around. Pray for healing and prevent anymore from getting sick.   Cell groups to have good, open and honest conversation, Be with Abby as endures late nights, that things will continue to operate smoothly, and that the Lord may lift any weight that is upon her shoulders.
